EN QUÊTE DU MATRIMOINE
18/10/2024
The term matrimoine, rehabilitated by feminism, refers to the cultural heritage of women, often overlooked by a male-dominated history. In the Middle Ages, it designated maternal goods but gradually disappeared in favor of the term 'patrimoine'. In 2015, initiatives like the Days of Matrimoine emerged to promote this concept, with several French cities now celebrating this heritage every September. In 2023, a proposal was made for the European Heritage Days to also include those of matrimoine. Despite a gender bias observed on Wikipedia, where women's representation is limited, efforts are underway to encourage more female contributions to this encyclopedia. The matrimoine aims to correct the neglect of women's struggles and achievements, thus redefining their role in history and culture.
